IPL Super Hair Reduction
IPL hair removal treatments are easy, painless and quick solution to unwanted hair and can be successfully used on the body or the face.
Usually a course of 8 – 12 treatments are required to achieve optimal result, but once you’ve completed your treatment cycle, you can look forward to a lifetime of smooth skin with only the occasional maintenance treatment.
Compare that to the cost and hassle of a lifetime of waxing or shaving. For the best possible outcome I recommend spacing treatments 6-8 weeks apart for body hair.
Facial hair can be treated 2-4 weekly.
There are 2 different ways IPL can remove unwanted hair.
On the smaller areas of the body such as your face I will use the hand piece that delivers one shot at a time.
On larger areas of the body I will use the SHR hand piece.
SHR* stands for Super Hair Reduction and is the latest breakthrough innovation in IPL permanent hair reduction. When compared to traditional IPL hair reduction treatments, SHR is faster & easier.
With SHR, you can experience comfortable hair reduction treatments in less than half the time of a traditional IPL session. The gradual heating method of the IPL SHR light delivery to the targeted hair follicle also means that treatments are comfortable.
The rapid treatment times and superior comfort factor both make SHR a leading choice when seeking permanent and hassle-free hair reduction solutions. In addition, SHR offers a great way to save on the ongoing cost and time spent on waxing, shaving and depilatory creams.

What can I expect after treatment?
HAIR REMOVAL
- A mild sunburn-like sensation is anticipated. This usually resolves within 2-3 hours of treatment but may persist for up to 2 days.
- Appearance of “stubble” may appear in 1 to 3 weeks. This is not hair re-growth. It is the remnant of treated hairs being expelled from the IPL-damaged follicle. Allow this hair to fall out of the skin on its own or encourage with gentle exfoliation. Do not pluck or tweeze. You may shave during this period.
- Application of chilled Aloe Vera gel or a cold compress every hour for 5 to10 minutes may be soothing to the skin. Continue until symptoms subside.
- Avoid sun exposure to treated areas. Apply a sun block with SPF 30 or greater daily to sun-exposed treated areas between treatments and for 4-6 weeks after last treatment.
- Bathe or shower as usual. Treated areas may be temperature sensitive. Avoid use of extremely hot water, strongly scented lotions or soaps, prescription strength exfoliant creams, loofah sponges, and aggressive scrubbing to treated areas during healing phase.
- Allow any blistered or open areas to heal spontaneously. If healing is delayed, a thin coating of antibiotic ointment may be advised. Do not pick at these areas. Picking may result in infection or scarring.
- Allow any crusting to heal spontaneously, crusting will resolve in 3 to 14 days.
- Best results are obtained on clients who have follow up treatment immediately after hair starts to grow. Your clinician will advise you when you should schedule your next appointment. It is important to adhere to this regime.
Until redness has completely resolved, avoid all of the following:
- No active cosmetics on treated areas (including AHA/BHA’s, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and physical exfoliants)
- No swimming, especially in pools with chemical/chlorine
- No hot tubs and jacuzzis
- No exercise or activities that cause excessive perspiration
- Avoid sun exposure to treated areas
- Do not pick, scratch or remove scabs as this will cause unwanted side effects

IPL Skin Rejuvenation
IPL skin rejuvenation is the prefect treatment to begin your journey to great skin. The light passes through the epidermis and penetrates deeper into the dermis where the pulsed light energy stimulates cells called fibroblasts to produce fresh collagen.
IPL is non-abrasive treatment and therefore is little to no down time.
A series of 4 – 6 treatments spaced 4 week apart are required for optimal results.
Collagen & Elastin
Collagen and elastin are the structure of the skin that maintains both elasticity and firmness. Fibroblast cells create both collagen and elastin. The special fibroblast cells are found in the papillary level of the second layer of the skin (dermis).
While we’re born with an abundance of collagen in our skin, the body’s production of collagen slows in our mid-to-late 20’s and continues to decrease dramatically after age 30. From there, the collagen levels in our skin begin to drop by 1-2% each year. When collagen starts to decline with age — or due to excessive exposure to UV rays, pollution, or cigarette smoke — our skin’s structural integrity is compromised.

Laser Tattoo Removal
A laser that is used for tattoo removal is a highly focused laser that rapidly delivers a beam of light to the skin for the purposes of removing unwanted tattoos. The laser is attracted by darker colours found in the ink of the tattoo in preference to the lighter colour of the skin. When the beam of the laser strikes the ink in a tattoo it shatters the ink into very fine particles. These particles are then no longer visible to the eye and become small enough to be absorbed and removed by the body’s own natural filtration (lymphatic) system.
The Ultralase Q-Switched Nd YAG Laser is specially designed for the purpose of tattoo removal. This laser allows very high-powered laser light to be delivered to the skin over a fraction of a second. This minimises any damage that could be caused by overheating the surrounding skin and hence any chance of scarring is greatly reduced.
Generally, treatments are quick and clients experience only minimal discomfort. The older the tattoo, the more treatments may be necessary and different colours and more intricate designs may also require additional treatments.

Laser Tattoo Removal FAQs
Why do people want to remove their tattoos?
Most people get tattooed and bitterly regret the decision further on. What seemed like a good idea at the time can cause a major problem in later life. For some people having a tattoo can mean psychological distress. For others it can mean difficulty in securing employment or going for a promotion however, there are also many people now seeking to reduce or remove previous tattoos in order to make way for new and more modern designs.
Our clinic offers treatments with the Ultralase Q Switched Nd YAG Laser which can remove tattoos containing black, dark and light blue, green and red pigments within 6-12 sessions based on the quality of tattoo. By matching the colour of the laser to the colour of the unwanted tattoo ink, multi-coloured professional tattoos as well as single colour amateur tattoos can be removed safely and effectively.
How many treatments are necessary?
It is impossible to accurately predict the number of treatments necessary as it depends on the amount of ink used and how deep the ink was inserted. However as a guide most professional tattoos will require at least six to twelve treatments. Follow up treatments are conducted at no less than 4-6 week intervals. Further fading can occur for several months after each treatment.
Can the area be re-tattooed?
Yes, the area can be re-tattooed following laser removal. Whether you have had complete removal, partial removal or just lightening of the area will be able to be re-tattooed. The wish to replace an existing tattoo is a common reason for having laser tattoo removal.
Will the tattoo completely disappear?
In many cases, there will be a 100% clearance of the tattoo. On average, 95% fading is considered a good result. The result depends upon the colour and type of ink used as well as the depth of penetration of the ink in the skin. Your therapist can discuss with you the likeliness of success during your initial consultation.
In General
- With modern laser technology the risk of scarring is very low, however, it is not zero and aftercare is important.
- Black is the easiest colour to remove but some colours can be more resistant.
- Anaesthetic creams can be used to numb the skin prior to laser treatment.
- It is possible to remove or significantly lighten tattoos, but it is not always possible to totally remove a tattoo.
Can all types of tattoos be treated?
It is possible to remove or significantly lighten most tattoos. Black, blue and red tattoos tend to respond well. Aqua, green and yellow tattoos may be more resistant and only partially fade. White tattoos reflect laser light and therefore do not respond to laser treatment.
How frequent are the treatments?
Time is required between each treatment to allow the body’s lymphatic (cleaning) system to remove the ink that has been treated by the laser. A minimum period of six (6) weeks between treatments is recommended.
How long after being tattooed can removal commence?
Removal can commence as soon as the tattoo has completely healed. Although it may appear healed within a week or two the tattoo will still require further time to completely heal prior to removal commencing. A minimum period of six (6) weeks is advised. Your initial consultation can take place at any time during the six weeks.
What to Expect
- Tattooed areas will whiten and become raised immediately after treatment. This is expected and a normal reaction and will settle within about half an hour. Tattoo will return to its normal colour after a few hours.
- Pinpoint bleeding may occur, both on and under the skin. This will either be cleansed away or subside in the days following treatment.
- The tattooed area may blister. Do not break the blisters, however keep them dressed. Elevation and intermittent icing will aid in healing.
- The tattoo ink will start to fade over subsequent weeks and months.
- The skin can have an “unclean”, scabby look which can last from 3-14 days. Keep skin moist using Solugel or Bepanthen to ensure the best healing outcomes.
- If treatment is undertaken on the lower extremities, it is recommended to keep them elevated for the first 12-24 hours post treatment.
Post Treatment
- Ensure you continue to apply an aftercare cream such as Solugel/Bepanthen and dress the area as recommended by your clinician. It is important that you follow the recommended routine to ensure best results and optimal healing.
- Do not ‘pop’ any blisters, should they occur.
- Strict avoidance of sun on the area is essential.
- Wear 30+ sun block and protective clothing, regardless of weather for 4+ weeks.
- Face, neck and hands will require sun block daily (if being treated)
- Do not scratch, pick or rub the area. Scratching or picking will have the same result as picking any scab or pimple and the area could infect or scar.
- Do not go in a spa/pool/sauna or anywhere that involves chlorine/chemicals or excessive heat for at least a week after treatment.
- Avoid the gym or excessive exercise for 48 hours or more after treatment.
- Avoid friction of the treated area, ie under arms, bikini, inner thigh.
